| The Spirit
Level Profile |
|
• The
profile constitutes an extension of the vial.It must be made
from durable, distortion-free material and be light and
easy to manipulate.
• The shape of the profile and the wall
thicknesses are optimized to suit the range of uses.
• An additional important factor: the profile is carefully die-stamped
to receive the vial block.
1 Smooth rectangular profile – light overall

4 106 T profile with telescopic extension.

Horizontal
vial:
seated in the centre of the longitudinal axis of the spirit
level – displays the horizontal alignment. Some types
with a 4-sided view. |

Vertical
vial:
seated at the end of the spirit level – displays the
vertical alignment. Some types with a 3-sided view. |

Angle
vial:
whole vial block holder can be rotated around 360°. It
possesses an easily readable scale in degrees
(90° to the
left – 90° to the right). |

| The
End Caps |
|
• Permanent
impact-resistant plastic end caps are used to protect the measuring
surfaces.
•
The upright height of the level’s hollow profile must be
appropriately dimensioned to provide good shock-absorption. STABILA
also provides end caps with practical additional functions.

3 End caps with patented anti-slip stopper: holds firm even when laid
with just one hand. Convenient for marking out. Greater security.

• The
highest measurement accuracy provided by a precise, even, inner
surface with shallow internal radius: Precise readout from
an unimpaired, jerk-free bubble track - even for the smallest
changes in inclination.
• The best basis for precise work.
•
Internal vial curvatures: highly precise internal contours provide
all-round performance so that you can even measure accurately overhead. • What
does the measurement accuracy reveal? If, for instance, the spirit
level has a measurement accuracy of 0.029° = 0.5 mm/m, this
means: over a distance of 10m, the spirit level has a maximum deviation
of 5mm.

position and overhead accuracy |

Normal position measurement
• Normal measuring
means: the vial is positioned at the top.
• Measurement accuracy in the normal position 0.5 mm/m. Measurement deviation
of only 5mm over 10 m.
Overhead measurement
• The spirit level is turned over during overhead
measurement and the vial is then read from underneath.
• Only spirit levels, whose vials are suitable for overhead measurement,
provide reliable measurement in this position.
• Measurement accuracy during overhead measurement 0.75 mm/m. Reason: the
identical inner curvature in the vial. Deviation of only 7.5mm over a distance
of 10m.

| The
Measuring surfaces |
|
• The
measuring surfaces on spirit levels can be designed in various
ways
• In most cases, the complete body of the spirit level, including
the measuring surface, is powder-coated, painted or anodised, but
on some spirit levels the measuring surface is also milled flat
after the coating process.
•
In every case, it is important that the surface be completely smooth. • For
this reason, not every side of a spirit level can be used as a
measuring surface.
• On STABILA spirit levels, a printed symbol shows whether only the
bottom side or also the top side of the level can be used for measuring.

• Vial
in high-quality solid acryl glass. Identical internal contours.
•
Vial’s inner curvatures: all-round performance is provided
by highly precise internal contours, so that you can even measure
accurately overhead.
•
Individually inserted corrosion-proof read-off rings – immovable
seated in precisely positioned recesses: still capable of being
easily read, even after years and years..
• The special fluorescent vial fluid is highly resistant to UV radiation.
• This provides an easy-to-read bubble which moves neither too quickly
nor too slowly.
•
The optimum design of the bubble size and the ring distance provides
good readability in all situations and in all weathers. • The
smooth vial surface can easily be cleaned with water
•
During its production, the spirit level’s accuracy will be
tested 3 x 100%.
Electrostatic discharge
STABILA spirit levels reliably prevent any influence from electrostatic
discharge on the vial’s operation and therefore the measurement
accuracy.

| Vial
block holder |
|
• The high-quality plastic
surround forms the connection between the vial block and the
spirit level’s profile.
•
For this reason, the vial block holder, provided that it is aligned
parallel to the measurement surface, is one of the most important
elements governing the spirit level’s accuracy.
•
One of STABILA’s most secure processes is its patented moulding-in
process, in which the vial block holder consists of two sections:
the receptacle, which can be adjusted, and the clamping
unit, which holds the vial securely in the profile. All three
elements are incorporated into the body of the spirit level.
• A lifelong, unstressed, unshakeably secure connection is produced
by pressing in a non-shrinking synthetic resin.
• The
vial block is adjusted in the holder before the resin hardens,
thereby guaranteeing
the
highest long-term precision.
• Vials or vial systems that are screwed on and not moulded into
the profile cannot meet this requirement.
